The lighthouse of Psara was constructed in 1909 by the Ottoman Empire and was included in the Greek Lighthouse Network with the liberation of Psara in 1912. It is found in the south-eastern side of the island, 200 metres from the capeAgios Georgios and in focal height of 78 meters. It first operated with oil as an energy source with the characteristic of a white flash per 5 sec. and luminescence of 23 to 25 naval miles. It became automated with the supply of the NATIONAL ELECTRICAL COMPANY on 2/8/1984 with luminescence of 24 naval miles. In order you to go up in the top of the tower there are 35 steps that lead to a platform. From there you take another 8 iron steps that leads you in a circular balcony where the mechanism of the Lighthouse with the lamp is found.
The lighthouse is constituted by a circular tower of 14,5 metres, a dormitory for the lighthouse guards, a dormitory and an office of the foreman, a kitchen and a room in which there is an oven, a storehouse, and a toilet, as well as the courtyard with a door to the exterior environment.
The road connection between the settlement and the lighthouse was completed recently by the Municipality of Psara. The project for the necessary building maintainance- re-establishment of the lighthouse has been included in the ESPA program in the year 2013,it has been auctioned and the start of works is expected immediately.
